After spending close to an hour troubleshooting and finally getting it to boot normally, I decided to wipe everything and start fresh.

Restart graphics driver with win + ctrl + shift + B.Double check cables: I've tried dp & HDMI from both the gpu and mobo. The first time it worked after one restart, then it was less and less likely to work. Simply restart: this worked at first, but hasn't worked in a few days. When I say "had luck" or "had success" I mean that the computer booted & worked normally after I tried that troubleshooting step. I even set spotify as the only startup app and was able to enter my pin and play music during the black screen issue one time by spam clicking all over the screen lmaoīased on the many reddit threads and troubleshooting guides I've read through, a black screen on startup seems to be a common issue, but none of the common fixes have worked for me more than a few times. I can hear the 'ding' from windows 11 when it gets to the login screen, so I know windows is running normally and it's purely a display issue. If I unplug the DP cable while it's running in this state, it will go from dark black screen to a backlit black screen with the 'no signal' symbol but that symbol goes away and backlight goes off if you plug it back in. My monitor is getting some kind of signal because it wakes up from sleep mode, but after a second or two the backlight turns back off. Normally when it starts up (and works) the gpu fans kick on right away, even completely cold startup in the morning. When it boots to black screen, everything turns on except for the graphics card fans (case fans, mobo rgb, cpu fan, and everything else seems to be fine). Temps and performance are awesome, even at nearly max GPU usage it stays nice and cool and I could game for hours. Each time it booted normally, it would work great until I powered it off. I was always able to get it to work eventually by restarting or reseating components, but after a long time shut off it would always boot to black screen initially. Then it started booting to a black screen.

I built my first PC about two weeks ago and it worked great for a few days. Build details at the bottom and TLDR above that.
